OK forgive the newbie, but I have a question before I screw up my new kayak.
What is the best way to install my scotty rod holders? There is a place right behind the seat that has been leveled for the placement, on my OK Caper. There is no hardware with the holders, so what sealant and screws do I need to use?
Thanks
Keith

If you can get your hand inside, use nuts, washers and bolts. Stainless, of course.

Lexel is a good sealant

Many people use screws.

Hook 1 has this as a fastener package for Scotty mounts

You should be able to get those screws at a local hardware shop or marine supply store. Don't forget to use some sealant with the screws to help it hold and remain waterproof.

Ok, that seems easy enough. I thought I had to use some special anchor type inserts (like dry wall anchors) I can get this done quickly and easily.

If you can't get to the inside and want absolute security, you can use aircraft rivets like this http://topkayaker.net/topkayakershop/in ... ldfuhf6do7 and polace a dab of sealant to make them waterproof. However, I have an anchor trolley with stainless steel screws from lowes that I just leaned on the drill to get them started and screwed them in and they have never failed or loosened up that I am aware of and I do remember to check every once in a while. Also used goop or similar 6200 type sealant to make sure of seal. John
