Been trying to get a rack for my Nissan Frontier/King Cab Truck. It did not come from the factory w/ racks and does not have rain gutters or a lip around the edge of roof. Thule and Yakima say it is tricky to install the roof mount type because they don't know where the frames or wiring is at. I saw a pict. of a bed mount type in this site and responded to it asking info, but now it is gone. does any one have any suggestions or knowledge of any products??? Thanks, Michael :?:

You should first look at the truck bed extender they have at Harbor Freight. On sale for $20 about every other month. Less lifting, simple slide in and out for the kayak.

If you have to have it racked up high, there are several options. The site below shows several of them and will give you a place to start your search.

I use a bed extender and it works great. Some bed liners (but not mine) have a recesses to put 2 x 4 s across and you can put your kayak on those with the bed extender adjusted a little bit higher and still have room store stuff under the boats for a road trip.

The nice thing about the bed extender is you can turn it 90 degrees and use a pad on the roof of your truck and have the boat up real high and pack all the camping and fishing gear for a week in the bed. Come to think of it with a big tarp over it it would make a good tent with the kayak as a ridge pole.

That only works with the good ones. The less expensive ones from Harbor Freight will not reach up that high.

Mine came from HF and it will go higher than needed.
